First asparagus!

Last year we had to ignore the fat purple-green spears of asparagus, as the plants were just a year old and needed to establish themselves before we were allowed to eat any. But this year we can have some! We had not-quite-enough, steamed, drizzled with lemon juice and butter, and they were delicious.

I was going to take a picture, but I couldn't wait.

What's going on in your garden?

  2. I am so jealous. Jim has tried for years to get asparagus going at Higher Ground but it is a continuing challenge. We both really like asparagus so I am not giving up; my motto is "if others can do it I can surely figure out a way to do it too!"

  3. We've had really good luck with "purple passion" from Pinetree Seeds. The spears are fat but really tender. Had to put chicken wire over the bed to keep the chickens out. :)
